Terry began using deep breathing and mental relaxation techniques over thirty years ago to assist his efforts to stop smoking. In 2004, he began studying Tai Chi under John Allen. Tai Chi has strengthened Terry’s legs, improved his physical balance, and given him a new level of inner tranquility and focus. His wish is to pass on to others the benefits of Tai Chi. He teaches at the Lee District Recreational Center in Fairfax County, Virginia. Terry’s classes emphasize physical and mental relaxation, balance, and—most importantly—fun! Terry is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and a retired Federal employee. Since his retirement from Federal service, he has worked with persons with mental illnesses at Green Door in Washington, D.C. and serves on several Fairfax County citizen boards focused on the needs of those less fortunate. Terry and his wife Suzette teach classes together. Dates and times for their classes can be found in the Fairfax County Parktakes magazine or on-line at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/parktakes/.
