Thinking Back

Many times, when someone inquires about my Tai Chi class, they say things like: I have bad coordination, I have bad balance, I am new to Tai Chi, I haven’t worked out for a while, I have arthritis, etc.  They seem surprised when I let them know that they are the perfect ‘candidate’ for Tai Chi.

I ask all my new students to try to remember their first classes.  After they have been learning the form (choreography) for a while, I ask them to think back to those first classes.  Were they able to do those parts that require balance?  Did they think they could recall so many new moves?  Only then do they become aware of how much they have improved in so many ways.  It happens automatically with time (and practice of course).  It practically sneaks up on you.

That’s why I love Tai Chi.
